Ellen Higgins, FNPEllen M. Higgins, F.N.P.

Ellen M. Higgins, FNP is proud to be part of the NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group/Hudson Valley which serves the communities of the NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital. As a nurse practitioner, Ellen is a registered nurse (RN) with advanced education and training. Nurse practitioners advocate the health of their patients as well as disease prevention. Nurse practitioners obtain health histories, perform physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic/laboratory studies, diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, prescribe medications, and provide follow up care. Ellen obtained her B.S. in Nursing from Lehman College in 1983 and received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University where she obtained her Nurse Practitioner license.

Ellen is an advocate for the care of the geriatric patient and continues to be an active supporter of the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ellen lives locally with her husband, Bill, who is also a member of The Westchester Medical Practice. Ellen has a rescue dog, Chewie, a mixed breed golden doodle that is completely wired wrong but loved nonetheless.

William HigginsWilliam J. Higgins, M.D.

As the Medical Director of NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group/Hudson Valley, Dr. Higgins is committed to upholding NYPMG/Hudson Valley’s Mission Statement in providing the highest quality of health care to the NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital community.

Dr. Higgins received his M.D. degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1986. He completed his Internal and Pulmonary Medicine training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Higgins moved to Cortlandt Manor in 1991 and has been active on staff at Hudson Valley Hospital. Dr. Higgins serves as the Vice President of Medical Affairs and is active on the Peer Review, Credentials and Quality Assurance Committees. He serves on the Board of Directors as well as the Foundation Board of Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

Dr. Higgins' clinical interest is in the area of geriatric medicine and Alzheimer's disease. He completed two terms as a Director for the Alzheimer’s Association in the Hudson Valley Region. Dr. Higgins received his MBA at UMASS Amherst in May of 2012.

Dr. Higgins lives locally in Peekskill, New York with his wife, Ellen, their son Liam, and their dog Chewie. He serves on the Peekskill Historic Preservation Board and enjoys hiking, kayaking, and eating.

Cynthia-LigenzaCynthia Ligenza, M.D.

Cynthia Ligenza, MD  holds board certifications in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. She has practiced in Cold Spring for 10 years and is on the staff of Hudson Valley Hospital Center.  Her medical career spans 26 years and was preceded by training at Harlem Hospital in Internal Medicine as well as Einstein and Montefiore Medical Centers in Pulmonary Medicine.  She has worked as attending physician in the Harlem Hospital ICU, Medical Clinics, Woodhull Hospital Pulmonary and Internal Medicine Services, Lincoln Hospital Pulmonary and Medicine Departments and its Tuberculosis Clinic.  Since moving to Cold Spring in 1998, Dr. Ligenza has cultivated a very active presence there.  She is noted for availability, personal attention and experience in integrative medicine and complementary therapies as well as involvement in regional musical and other cultural projects.

Aaron Richman, M.D.

Dr. Aaron Richman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He was born in Bologna, Italy and grew up locally in the Cortlandt Manor area.

He performed his undergraduate studies at Boston University and went on to Medical School at the University of Florence, Italy. His internship and Residency training was done at the Roger Williams Hospital – Brown University Medical School.

Dr. Richman has been practicing in Cortlandt Manor since January of 1995 and has been the Chairman of the Credentialing Committee and Member of the Medical Board at Hudson Valley Hospital Center for over ten years. He has been a member of The Westchester Medical Practice since August 2010. He is fluent in English and Italian. He also has office personnel that are fluent in Spanish if translation is needed. Finally, in his Internal Medicine Practice Dr. Richman emphasizes patient education since "educated patients have a better understanding of their medical problems and often have better outcomes".

Alexis OliverosAlexis Oliveros, MD

Dr. Oliveros is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She prides herself in being an advocate for her Patient’s health and ensuring proper communication in regards to their care. Ihor IwaniwIhor Iwaniw, MD

Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Iwaniw brings to the NewYork-Presbyterian/ Hudson Valley Hospital Community, more than 20 years of experience caring for patients. In addition to outpatient care, Dr. Iwaniw is also familiar with Emergency Room and Urgent Care settings, coordinating the opening of two medical care facilities.

After receiving a Medical Degree from Universidad CETEC/Universidad Del Noreste School of Medicine, Dr. Iwaniw completed a Fifth Pathway Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He continued with his Residency in Buffalo NY, at Mercy Hospital. Dr. Iwaniw is a member of the American College of Physicians, as well as the Dutchess County Medical Society.

 

Surbhi AgarwalSurbhi Agarwal, MD

Dr. Surbhi Agarwal is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She completed her residency in 2002 from St Vincent's Catholic Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Agarwal has been an attending physician at sub-acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities at various Westchester County and New York City locations for over 10 years. As Medical Director, Dr. Agarwal helped improve quality care and prevent hospital re-admissions. She is also experienced working in urgent care and outpatient based settings.

Dr. Agarwal loves to cook and paint in her free time, and resides in Briarcliff Manor with her husband and two boys.

 

Satish KapoorSatish Kapoor, MD

Satish C. Kapoor, MD, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine with a sub-specialty in Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Kapoor received his Medical Degree from Panjab University Medical College, India, in addition to completing his rotating internship. Following Dr. Kapoor’s relocation to the U.S., he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Downstate University, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, NY, and then furthered his education with his Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship at LIJ Medical Center, NY.

Dr. Kapoor brings more than 30 years of expertise to his patients, with experience ranging from correctional facilities, to private practice and hospital based care. Having served as the Medical Director at his prior medical group, and Senior Attending Physician previously at Phelps Memorial Hospital, has brought Dr. Kapoor vast knowledge and skills to attend to his patients and their families with quality care.

Dr. Kapoor believes in the importance of patient counseling, and promoting healthy lifestyles. He is an active enthusiast and participant in international marathons, and also enjoys skiing in his free time.

 

Urmil KapoorUrmil Kapoor, MD

Urmil Kapoor, MD, specializes in Internal Medicine. She is dedicated to providing quality care to her patients, ensuring their health and well-being is always top priority. Dr. Kapoor’s Medical Degree was received from Punjab University Medical College, India, which was followed by her Internal Medicine Residency at Downstate Medical Center, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, NY, after relocating to the U.S.

In addition to being licensed in multiple states, Dr. Kapoor has extended experience in outpatient and ambulatory care. Dr. Kapoor has formerly practiced in a private office, and large hospital facilities, in which she was an Attending Physician. To uphold her standards of providing her patients with the most up to date medical care, she also completed a comprehensive medical review course at St. Barnabas Medical Center, NJ.

Dr. Kapoor considers healthy living to be the largest factor in a person’s overall health, and encourages patients to be active in their daily lives. Dr. Kapoor enjoys indulging in yoga and swimming, when time is permitted. She is an Associate Member of the American College of Physicians, and is multi-lingual, being fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi, as well as fundamental Spanish.

 

Madhavi KancharlaMadhavi Kancharla, MD

Madhavi Kancharla, MD, has over 15 years of experience practicing in-patient and outpatient care as a Board Certified Internist. Dr. Kancharla’s relocation to the U.S. after receiving her Medical Degree, at the University of Mysore, India, exposed her to various educational opportunities. Dr. Kancharla accomplished her Residency in Internal Medicine at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, NY, where she also observed in the Oncology Department for one year.

Dr. Kancharla feels strongly about preventative care for her patients. Her goal is to maintain a well and comfortable lifestyle and prevent potential disease before it begins, to safeguard the future of her patient’s health. Dr. Kancharla’s experience in a prior urgent care setting has provided her the familiarity of non-routine concerns, crucial diagnoses, and rapid attention to her patient’s needs.

As a Physician who previously practiced in a hospital facility, Dr. Kancharla was a member of the Medical Board, a member of the Medical Services Review Committee, and was a preceptor to medical students from New York Medical College. Dr. Kancharla appreciates meditation, and spending time with her family. She enjoys being active in her community and stimulating strong and jubilant lives.

 

Terry WeiTerry Wei, MD

Dr. Wei, Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He graduated from Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-Sen University, and completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, affiliated with The Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Wei is experienced in helping patients with complex medical conditions and has a focused interest in providing care to the Chinese community, being fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

 

Michael ChristensenMichael Christensen, MD

D. Michael Christensen, MD is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and is Assistant Clinical Professor of medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Christensen received his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame, and his medical training at the University of Monterrey and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

After his internship, residency, and chief residency at Mount Sinai Hospital Services at Elmhurst City Hospital Queens, he stayed on in a faculty position in the Primary Care Residency Program. He was also appointed Medical Director of the Hospital Diagnostic Clinic, where care was provided to hundreds of patients daily from one of the most diverse communities in New York City.

Dr. Christensen has been caring for his patients for over 20 years, and had received the “Excellence in Education Award” from Undergraduate Medical Education and Primary Care at New York Medical College during his time of preceptorship. Dr. Christensen is fluent in Spanish and is a member of the American College of Physicians.

 

Richard FindlingRichard Findling, MD

Dr. Richard Findling is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He attended medical school at Sackler, SUNY-Tel Aviv in Israel, and then completed his Internship, Residency, and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, which is affiliated with Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Findling also completed a Fellowship and served as Chief Fellow in Gastroenterology at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Columbia University.

Previously, Dr. Findling held the position of Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine Hospital, as well as a Director of Endoscopy in a private practice. Currently, Dr. Findling is an Assistant Professor of medicine at Columbia university Medical Center.

Dr. Findling provides expertise in Gastroenterological and Liver Disorders, having previously educated Interns, Residents, and Fellows, the principals of these conditions. Dr. Findling is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, and is fluent in Hebrew.

 

Bruce HeckmanBruce Heckman, MD

Bruce Heckman, MD is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine, and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Heckman received his Medical Degree from New York Medical College, as well as completing his Residency and Hematology Fellowship at the same institute. In addition, Dr. Heckman obtained his Masters in Public Health from Yale University, and has been providing expertise care to his patients for the past 40 years, previously holding Directorships in multiple organizations.

His greatest satisfaction in medical practice comes from long-term relationships with patients and their families. Dr. Heckman is an avid fly fisherman, collects antiques, and spends time with his five grandchildren.

 

David KauvarDavid Kauvar, MD

Dr. David Kauvar, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Dr. Kauvar obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Colorado and completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California-San Diego. His Fellowships in Gastroenterology were completed at the University of Colorado, Denver and Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Kauvar holds memberships in the American Society of Gastroenterology, and American of Gastrointestinal Motility.

Dr. Gary Lehrman, Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, in addition to Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Lehrman graduated from New York University Medical School, where he received his Medical Degree, and completed his Internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Lehrman then completed his Fellowship at Queens Hospital Center an affiliate of Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
