David BurnsDavid Burns, M.D.

Dr. David L. Burns is practicing Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology with an emphasis on primary care since 1989. Dr. Burns was formerly part of Hudson valley Medical Group with Dr. John A. McGurty and has continued his care at the same location with The Westchester Medical Practice. Dr. Burns attended Howard University School of Medicine in Washington D.C., and completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan. For the last ten years he has enjoyed being a preceptor for second , third, and fourth year medical students from New York Medical College. Dr. Burns also is a Diplomate of the American board of Internal Medicine. David Burns is the proud father of five children and has recently welcomed his first grandchild into the family.

Ellen Higgins, FNPEllen M. Higgins, F.N.P.

Ellen M. Higgins, FNP is proud to be part of the Westchester Medical Practice which serves the communities of the Hudson Valley Hospital Center. As a nurse practitioner, Ellen is a registered nurse (RN) with advanced education and training. Nurse practitioners advocate the health of their patients as well as disease prevention. Nurse practitioners obtain health histories, perform physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic/laboratory studies, diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, prescribe medications, and provide follow up care. Ellen obtained her B.S. in Nursing from Lehman College in 1983 and received her Masterís Degree in Nursing from the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University where she obtained her Nurse Practitioner license.

Ellen spent the last five years working as the NP Administrator at a Memory Support Unit and Assisted Living Facility. Ellen continues to be an advocate for the care of the geriatric patient and continues to be an active supporter of the local chapter of the Alzheimerís Association. Ellen also provides gynecological care including performing routine annual pap exams as well as diagnosing and treating minor problems with an emphasis on the care of the post menopausal female.

Ellen lives locally with her husband, Bill, who is also a member of The Westchester Medical Practice. Ellen and Bill have one son, Liam, who will be saving the world from injustice and inequity as he enters the Class of 2014 at New York Law School. Ellen has two rescue dogs, Lima, the Italian Water Dog (15 years old), and Chewie, a mixed breed golden doodle (5 years old) that is completely wired wrong but loved nonetheless.

William HigginsWilliam J. Higgins, M.D.

As the Medical Director of The Westchester Medical Practice, Dr. Higgins is committed to upholding The WMPís Mission Statement in providing the highest quality of health care to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center Community.

Dr. Higgins received his M.D. degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1986. He completed his Internal and Pulmonary Medicine training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Higgins moved to Cortlandt Manor in 1991 and has been active on staff at Hudson Valley Hospital. Currently, Dr. Higgins serves as the President of the Medical Staff at HVHC and is active on the Peer Review, Credentials and Quality Assurance Committees. He serves on the Board of Directors as well as the Foundation Board of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. He is a "physician champion" in transitioning the hospital to electronic medical records. Dr Higgins also is the Chief Medical Information Officer at The WMP bringing the state of the art GE Centricity electronic medical record system to the practice. Two current projects include The WMPís application for a Patient Centered Medical Home and accomplishing Stage I Meaningful Use criteria.

Dr. Higgins' clinical interest is in the area of geriatric medicine and Alzheimer's disease. He recently completed two terms as a Director for the Alzheimerís Association in the Hudson Valley Region. Dr. Higgins is pursuing his MBA at UMASS Amherst with an anticipated graduation in May of 2012.

Dr. Higgins lives locally in Peekskill, New York with his wife, Ellen, their son Liam, and two rescue dogs. He serves on the Peekskill Historic Preservation Board and enjoys hiking, kayaking, and eating.

Cynthia-LigenzaCynthia Ligenza, M.D.

Cynthia Ligenza, MD  holds board certifications in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. She has practiced in Cold Spring for 10 years and is on the staff of Hudson Valley Hospital Center.† Her medical career spans 26 years and was preceded by training at Harlem Hospital in Internal Medicine as well as Einstein and Montefiore Medical Centers in Pulmonary Medicine.† She has worked as attending physician in the Harlem Hospital ICU, Medical Clinics, Woodhull Hospital Pulmonary and Internal Medicine Services, Lincoln Hospital Pulmonary and Medicine Departments and its Tuberculosis Clinic.† Since moving to Cold Spring in 1998, Dr. Ligenza has cultivated a very active presence there.† She is noted for availability, personal attention and experience in integrative medicine and complementary therapies as well as involvement in regional musical and other cultural projects.

Aaron Richman, M.D.

Dr. Aaron Richman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He was born in Bologna, Italy and grew up locally in the Cortlandt Manor area.

He performed his undergraduate studies at Boston University and went on to Medical School at the University of Florence, Italy. His internship and Residency training was done at the Roger Williams Hospital Ė Brown University Medical School.

Dr. Richman has been practicing in Cortlandt Manor since January of 1995 and has been the Chairman of the Credentialing Committee and Member of the Medical Board at Hudson Valley Hospital Center for over ten years. He has been a member of The Westchester Medical Practice since August 2010. He is fluent in English and Italian. He also has office personnel that are fluent in Spanish if translation is needed. Finally, in his Internal Medicine Practice Dr. Richman emphasizes patient education since "educated patients have a better understanding of their medical problems and often have better outcomes".

Steve RockerSteven Rocker, M.D.

Dr. Rocker has been practicing Internal Medicine in Peekskill and Cortlandt since 1987. A graduate of the Saint Loius University School of Medicine, he completed his residency in NYC at Metropolitan Hospital Center. Dr. Rocker is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine, as well as Geriatrics. He has experience in skilled nursing facilities, and is a former Medical Director of The Cortlandt Nursing Center. He resides in Pleasantville with his family.

 

 

Daniela SpitzerDaniela Spitzer, M.D.

Daniela Spitzer, M.D. has been practicing Internal Medicine in the Yorktown area, since 2002. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Northeastern Pennsylvania Hospitals program, affiliated with Hahnemann University. Dr. Spitzer is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and, as a volunteer faculty member of New York Medical College, participates in teaching medical students. She is a member of The AMA, and of The American College of Physicians. Dr. Spitzer lives locally with her spouse and children.

Dr. Trapasso is a board-certified internist handling all facets of adult primary care. His professional interests involve comprehensive diabetes care, hypertension and cardiovascular risk reduction. Outside of work he enjoys running, music, photography and lives locally with his wife and two boys.

Cipriano VamentaCipriano Vamenta, III , M.D.

Dr. Vamenta is an Internist, practicing in Cold Spring for many years. He was originally on the staff of Butterfield Hospital, and now is a member of the medical staff of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. Dr. Vamenta practices traditional Internal Medicine, and has a special interest in Cardiovascular disease. He resides locally in Garrison with his family.

 

 

Terry Alexander, N.P.

Terry Alexander has been a Family Nurse Practioner for over 30 years. She resides in Peekskill, with her extended family, and has been working with Dr. Ligenza in Cold Spring for many years. Terry is well know for her sense of humor, as well as for her careful and compassionate care. She practices traditional internal medicine, but believes in a holistic approach, utilizing alternative methods of healing. Hobbies include meditation, hiking, and spending time with her grand children and great grandchildren.

Sejal LauroSejal Lauro, MS RPA-C

Sejal is a Registered Physician Assistant, practicing in Cortlandt Manor and Peekskill since 1998. Initially Sejal was a registered Respiratory Therapist. As a Board Certified Physician Assistant, Sejal practices traditional Internal Medicine, both in the office and skilled nursing facility settings. Known for her warm and engaging personality, as well as for her committment to patient care, Sejal is an integral part of The Westchester Medical Practice.
